Caroline Gumbi
Administrative Assistant

Caroline Gumbi joined APP in July 2017 where she worked as a procurement intern for six months. Carol was then absorbed as an Administrative Assistant and is now responsible for checking stock to determine the inventory level, placing and purchasing orders, verifying receipts and delivery of office supplies. 

Lydia Karuthai

Lydia joined APP as a tutor in September 2017 taking on the following units: The law of Evidence, Law of Torts and Civil and Criminal Procedure. She holds a bachelors in Law from the University of London (international programme) and a Masters degree in Corporate Governance and Law (Grad ICSA) from the University of Portsmouth. I am an associate member of CIarb (Chartered Institute of Arbitrators) and I have previously been a lecturer at local universities.

James Kuya
Finance Manager

James joined African Prisons Project in September 2017 as an Interim Finance Manager and from January 2018 as a Finance Manager. He is responsible for ensuring that the organisation's resources are properly managed. He holds a Bachelors of Commerce (Accounting) and is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPAK). He brings in over 15 years of experience in finance and accounting, having worked in the private sector in Kenya and over 10 years in INGO's within the region. 

Jacqueline Kobusinge
Human Rights Project Officer

Jacqueline Kobusinge joined APP in July 2017, she works as a Human Rights Project Officer in Alebtong District in Northern Uganda and is responsible for implementing and coordinating various project activities under Access to Justice. She holds an LLB and a Diploma in legal practice from Kenya School of Law Nairobi. Jacqueline is a down to earth young lady and a patriot; she is passionate about human rights and always strives for success.


Penninah Luwedde
Finance Officer

Penninah joined APP in April 2017 as a Finance Officer and is responsible for ensuring proper accountability and management of the organisation resources. She hols a bachelor degree in Business Administration from Makerere University and a Level 2 CPA. In the past, she worked as an accounts assistant with Markhouse Partners.  

Thomas Oyugi
Human Rights Project Officer

Thomas joined African Prisons Project in July 2017 as a Human Rights Project Officer. He has over 10 years' experience working in various departments including programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. He is a graduate from Kyambogo and Mekerere Universities in Education and Development Studies. He is an outstanding and active citizen with a great commitment to serving the marginalised members of the community.

Ollie Richmond
On Purpose Placement

Ollie has joined APP for 6 months as an On Purpose Associate. The On Purpose Associate programme is a one year leadership development programme for proven professionals looking to tackle problems in the social sector. Ollie has a BA hons in Marketing & management and, previous to joining APP, worked for media agencies on European accounts such as PepsiCo, McDonald's and Volvo. He will be working on the planning and implementation of a graduation event in March 2018. 

Kosea Wandulu
Human Rights Project Officer

Kosea joined APP in 2017 and works as a Human Rights Project Officer in Uganda, namely the Dokolo and Amolatar Districts. He is responsible for implementing and coordinating various project activities under Access to Justice. He holds a BSc in Economics and Statistics from Uganda Martyrs University.

Sheila Waruhiu
Country Director, Kenya

Sheila has a BA in psychology from the United States International University Nairobi Campus and an MA in Population Studies from the Flinders University, Australia. Her career in humanitarian assistance began when she joined the World Food Programme in South Sudan, 1999. Her career veered into food security and worked for the Food Economy Group and Acacia Consultants implementing food security assessments in various countries. In May 2010 she joined Save the Children and lead the Humanitarian Leadership Development Program. Sheila then joined APP at the end of April 2017.
